The oldest Christchurch golf club is the Shirley Links Golf Club, it was originally in Hagley park until relocating to where it is situated now, the course is a links layout and is on rolling open land, there are trees to add to the challenge on some holes and a water hazard both on the front nine and the back nine, the course has held plenty of NZ Opens and is a great course.

Situated not far from the Shirley Links course is the Avondale Golf Course, it is a short course that is always in great shape and has a lot of risk reward holes, but beware the last six holes circle the course and they all have out of bounds on the right, so get the slice out of your game before the 13th tee.

Just out behind the Christchurch airport is the Harewood Golf Club, it has two golf courses to pick from, so its your choice, the old is a tree lined tight parkland's course and the new is a open links course. They both boarder the airport and the new course has the runway lights on the front nine, so you will see a few planes if the wind is blowing in the right direction. A chat to the pro may put you on the course thats playing the best at the time, but if you like the big open spaces then take on the new course.
