North Island 14 Day Resort Course Tour

Carrington, Kauri Cliffs, Gulf Harbour, Formosa, The Lakes, Dunes, Cape Kidnappers, Kinloch and the Wairakei International  Resort courses.

This is one of our best North Island tours we have, and the resort courses are exceptional, with a variety of layouts and views that will showcase the North Island's dramatic and breathtaking terrain, from the clifftop fairways at the Capekiddnappers resort course to the lake views at the inland Kinloch resort, which is the only Jack Nicklaus designed course in New Zealand.

This tour has been designed to give you plenty of time to enjoy not only the courses, but everything the local regions have to offer, from Auckland's bustling city to the quiet clifftop retreats at the Cape in Napier and Kauri Cliffs in the Northern district. The only tour better than this is the 21 day Resort Tour of both Islands.

Day One

Arrive at Auckland Airport, load up the rental car and set off to the FORMOSA RESORT which is only a 30 minite drive to the east of the airport, there you will be able to settle in to your accommodation and have all the resort facilities to utilize, and then get some rest for the two weeks of New Zealand golf at its best.

Day Two

A round of golf at the FORMOSA RESORT is a great way to start this golfing getaway, a course with great harbour views, so it will demand all the focus you can muster, and as you thread your ball between the many hazards on this resort layout, you will know you have embarked on a first class golf tour of the North Islands best.

Formosa Golf Resort course covers an area of 440 acres which makes it New Zealand's longest championship course at 6650 metres off the pro tees.  From its cliff tops and coastal fairways, the course has panoramic views of Waiheke Island, Rangitoto and the distant Coromandel peninsula.  There are plenty of native trees and 79 bunkers and over 1,000 mature Phonix and Washingtonian Palms and at least 16 holes have a beautiful north facing view of the Hauraki Gulf.

Day Three

Head north of the city for a round of golf at the GULF HARBOUR RESORT which sits out on the Whangaparoa peninsular and has awesome views of the Pacific and back across the harbour of Auckland city.

Spectacular finishing holes, ocean views, rolling terrain and classic traditional values all combine to make Gulf Harbour Country Club one of the most exciting new developments in New Zealand.  This 6400 metre par 72 golf course is located at Gulf Harbour on the Whangaparaoa Peninsular, just north of Auckland, it meanders through native grasses and vegetation and has a natural look and feel from start to finish.  Like all great courses, Gulf Harbour tantalizes players with a variety of exciting holes, several feature risk and reward opportunities, and none are triked up or artificial, also held the World Cup of Golf in 2000.

Day Four

After a hearty breakfast its a scenic drive up to the Northland district where two great resort courses are situated, this trip is about a four hour drive, so you will have the choice of taking it easy and enjoying all the scenery and tourist stops, some of you may like to get an extra round of golf in, if so let us know and we can arrange a game of golf at one of the other courses in the region that is on the way, and we will only charge you the green fee rate, there are plenty of great quality courses in the Northland Region region.  If you decide to play you will need to leave Auckland by 9am, this will get you to your Northland accommodation between 6pm and 7pm.

  NORTHLAND   ACCOMMODATION     THE NORTHERNER

The Northerner Motor Inn is a tranquil hotel complex just minutes from central Kaitaia. The refurbished accommodation includes studio rooms, adjoining family rooms and executive suites. This hotel is the perfect base for exploring 90 Mile Beach, Cape Reinga and Doubtless Bay, New Zealand's unspoilt natural beauties.

Day Five

After waking up in paradise and enjoying another hearty breakfast, it's time to cruise to the CARRINGTON RESORT for a warm up and practise putt before enjoying the picturesque layout, this is yet another one of New Zealands finest resorts and the walk around this course will have you feeling like you are a very lucky golfer.

Carrington Golf Course was inaugurated on December 15, 2003 and designed by American golf course designer Matt Dye.  The unique feature of the Carrington course is that, although it has an oceanside location, it looks and plays like an inland course, complete with rolling hills, valleys and natural water hazards, it is sighted on a flat plateau with man made obstacles and produced from artificial contouring of the land.  Carrington stresses the natural contours of its location on the gently sloping lower levels of a hill side site adjacent to the Pacific Ocean.

Day Six

Today is the day to play one of the most talked about golf resort's in the North Island, the KAURI CLIFFS RESORT, it is about a 45 minite drive from Kaitaia and you may want to get an early start, as a good warm up and practice putt will be essential for a round of golf on this great test of golf.

Kauri Cliffs was designed and built by David Harman, it was the first of two cliff side courses built by the American billionaire Julian Robertson.  The championship golf course measures 6,510 meters and offers five sets of tees to challenge every skill level, the condition is pristine and some call it the Pebble Beach of New Zealand.  Fifteen holes have stunning view's of the Pacific Ocean and the islands that are scattered as far as the eye can see, six of these fifteen seem to plunge into the sea. The beautiful inland holes wind through marsh, forest and farmland.  It's a truley remarkable layout that will have you wanting more.

Day Seven

The time has come to leave Northland and head back down south through Auckland and accross to the Coromandal where you will spend three nights and play two very good resort courses, one inland layout and the other almost surrounded by sea. The drive will take about 5 to 6 hours and again if you are a golfing attick and wat to squeeze in another round just let us know, this is the longest drive on the two week tour, so in the winter months it may pay to have the day off.

COROMANDAL   ACCOMMODATION     OCEAN BREEZE RESORT

Ocean Breeze Resort is Pauanui's premium luxury holiday accommodation located just 250m from Pauanui Beach, the apartments are spacious and warm with award winning furniture and fittings. Relax and enjoy the resort lifestyle within the beautifully landscaped grounds or enjoy a Swim in the heated saltwater pool and soak in the luxurious spa.

Day Eight

hA drive north of about 20 minites will put you in the small seaside town of Matarangi where the DUNES RESORT is located on a sand based peice of land surrounded by the ocean, this resort is a less talked about course but is an underated gem.

The Dunes Golf Resort is one of the truly unique golfing experiences available, bordering on the picturesque Whangapoua Harbour and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Pacific, the Dunes is set in glorious surroundings, with sea and harbour views from most holes and the Coromandel ranges forming a spectacular backdrop.  The world class Dunes Golf Resort sits at the tip of the sand spit, with its dune-sand base providing the ideal all weather golf course. When combined with the challenging layout, this championship golf course may become your closest companion(or toughest opponent).

Day Nine

Unlike the Dunes Resort, the LAKES RESORT is an inland style layout and is only a short drive from your accommodation, so enjoy a relaxing day and take your time to ease into a challenging round at one of the top resorts in the North Island.

Lying amidst the preserved landscape where forest covered hills blend into some of the most spectacular wetlands seen on the Coromandel peninsular, this visually stunning valley with its abundance of wildlife inspired the creation of a natural golf course that is a joy to play.  This resort holds lots of big tournaments each year, including a seniors event which all Australians and kiwi pro's really enjoy.

 Day Ten

Today is all about a drive down the East Coast of the North Island to Napier and Hastings where you will be based for the next two days, and playing the spectacular Resort course up on the cliffs of the Cape Kidnappers Peninsular, it was recently ranked inside the top ten golf courses in the world by a British Golfing magazine.  Also if you are still feeling as fit as a fiddle and are up for an extra round of golf, Hastings is home to the well known Brdge Pa golf course which is rated as one of New Zealands best Parklands layouts. Just let us know if you are keen and we will arrange it, even if you decide to play that morning.

HASTINGS   ACCOMMODATION     APRIMA LODGE

The Aprima Lodge is a spacious complex is set amougst mature trees, the units blend beautifully into the natural surroundings with there distinctive green and blue livery, with ample parking, two laundries, Sauna, spa, swimming pool and all mod cons.

Day Eleven

The time has come to play the most challenging golf resort course in New Zealand, the CAPE KIDNAPPERS RESORT course is a golfers dream, sitting nearly half a mile above the Pacific Ocean on cliffs that are home to the pristine fairways and slick greens.  This will no doubt be a days golf you will remember for the rest of your life.

One of the most unique golf courses in NZ and is rated in the top 100 courses outside of the U.S.A. Situated 20 minutes from Napier on the cliffs that drop down to the ocean.  Designed by Tom Doaks this is truly Heaven on earth, Julian Robertson an American Billionaire had a dream, and that was to build his own course, he done that with Kauri Cliffs and now he has gone one better with a true masterpiece.  Playing Cape Kidnappers is living Julian's dream, and a round of golf that will never be forgotten

Day Twelve

On this day you will be heading to the Taupo region, home of New Zealand's largest fresh water lake, you will be staying in Taupo for the last two nights of you golf holiday and will be playing what I believe to be our best golf course in New Zealand, also play the only golf course in the country designed by the great golfing legend Jack Nicklaus.  You will be playing on this day as well as travelling to Taupo, it is about an hour and a half drive so you will still have plenty of time to check in to your accommodation in Taupo and get some lunch before teeing off.

TAUPO   ACCOMMODATION     BAYVIEW WAIRAKEI RESORT

Bayview Wairakei Resort is the largest international 4-star resort in the central North Island but the hotel still enjoys a wonderful historic atmosphere. Situated right next door to the International course and having a nine hole course to warm up on makes this the ultimate place to stay.

Once you have checked into your accommodation its a very short drive to the WAIRAKEI RESORT to play what I believe to be the best course in New Zealand, it is a parklands layout that goes in every direction, and every shot you play has to be planned and excecuted to perfection.

The Wairakei International Golf Course is located in the heart of the North Island, set amongst the spectacular scenery of the Lake Taupo region.  Designed by Commander John Harris, Michael Wolveridge and Peter Thomson, this trio exceeded all expectations by producing New Zealand's first internationally recognized golf course.  In 2005, US golf Digest rated Wairakei within the top 100 courses in the world.

Day Thirteen

After playing Wairakei resort, you will be feeling on top of the world, this last round of golf at the KINLOCH RESORT will be the icing on the cake, it has brilliant views of the great lake and is a true masterpiece, set amoungst undulating terrain and the wonderful Taupo surroundings.

Jack Nicklaus has designed golf courses in 27 different countries, but this is the first Jack Nicklaus signature golf course to be built in New Zealand, located just outside Taupo with stunning views of Lake Taupo.  The design philosophy of this golf course is to enhance the natural environment allowing the surroundings of the location to shape each hole.  This approach has earned him an enviable reputation, the Kinloch site has the views and all the elevation that you need for a great golf course, it is a very special and enjoyable golf course.

Day Fourteen

The final day of the tour has to come sooner or later, depending on the time of the departing flight, you may be able to have another round of golf on the way back up to Auckland, there are numerous courses on the way back, including some good courses in Auckland, if you want to book a round for the final day let us know and we can send you some info on the golf courses available.
